The night

A pure African music experience, staged by the people learning to make it.

The production runs three hours and puts a thirty-five-member
Afrocentric crew
on stage: singers, dancers and dramatists working
as one company rather than a sequence of turns.

The show moves between cosmopolitan and Afrocentric sound, folding African
musical tradition into contemporary Afrobeats, Afrofusion, R&B and Highlife.
Audiences travel from the iconic sound of the 1970s through to the Afrofusion
being exported from Lagos today.

Evergreen African hits sit alongside original work from some of the finest
talents coming out of Tenstrings.

Freedom Park

Freedom Park, 1 Hospital Road, Lagos Island.

A colonial prison that became a place to gather.

Freedom Park is an established arts, culture and entertainment destination
on Lagos Island, with live performance spaces, gardens, galleries,
restaurants and historical attractions. Its transformation from a former
colonial prison site into a cultural and leisure destination gives the venue
a direct connection to history, expression and creativity.

It has hosted numerous live music experiences and remains a fixed part of
Lagos' live-music ecosystem.

A platform for the next generation

JOMA takes the philosophy out of the classroom and puts it on a stage.

We are not only celebrating the stars who have already made it. We are
creating a platform for the next generation to find their voice, develop
their craft and take their place on the African and global music stage.

Mr. Akapo Emmanuel, Director, Tenstrings Music Institute

At the heart of JOMA is a simple idea: African music deserves to be
celebrated not only as cultural heritage, but as a living, evolving and
globally influential creative force.

Through music, dance and drama, the concert explores how African sound has
evolved while giving young musicians room to develop their craft, gain stage
experience and meet an audience. Rather than building the night around
established stars alone, JOMA places emerging talent at the centre of it.

Under the leadership of Mr. Akapo Emmanuel, Tenstrings
continues to develop musicians and creatives through contemporary music
education and practical exposure to the professional music environment. JOMA
is where that education meets performance, and where the next generation gets
its turn to be seen and heard.
